Tech-Talk #1: Razor PRO 975, a downwind machine

In this first episode, we introduce you to the brand new Sabfoil Razor PRO 975, the largest hydrofoil in its range. What's special about it? It is a downwind machine with an incredible speed range.

Razor PRO 975

A small introduction about the line

As you know, Sabfoil's standard Razor line boasts a high AR for exceptional glide efficiency, and a significant thickness to promote take-off ease and low-end speed. This makes it extremely effective for downwind and, in its smaller sizes, for surfing as well.

The Razor PRO line is simply its natural progression for steeper waves and increased performances. We have taken the features of the Razors to extremes, modifying the profiles, and working on the angles of incidence to make the foils faster, more responsive, and even more efficient once cruising speed is reached... All this while being careful to maintain excellent take-off and low-end capability!

First impressions

Going into the details, the WRP975 is simply one of our best weapons for downwind and wing-freeride in light conditions. It will allow you to take off as early as 10 - 12 kn, but you’ll be surprised by its top-end speed, as it can easily reach 22 -24k kn, with even higher peaks in gusty conditions.

Here are Balz Müller's words about the WRP975:

“Well, everyone wants a Formula 1 car that has 4WD included. The new Razor Pro 975 get closest to that dream with it’s mind-blowing speed range, especially the low end gets me going in easily while top speed keeps surprising me. I love the possibilities of that new front wing that suits perfectly for the challenging downwind conditions we have on the Swiss lakes.”

We also want to share with you an Instagram Reel from Balz's first session, with an incredibly positive and genuine reaction!

As for Surfing, we want to share with you the words from the rider in the picture below:

“This foil is super light and offers excellent speed, making it perfect for surfing waves from 40cm to 1m and even more. However, it should be noted that if conditions suddenly increase, it still performs very well among waves in the 2-meter range. Due to its excellent wave surfing ability and its ability to take off even with little wind, this foil is an ideal choice for those seeking high performance in a variety of conditions. Its exceptional acceleration allows you to reach top speed quickly without pushing you out of the water!”

Technical specs

Let`s dig even deeper and find out together the technical specifications of this amazing front wing.

The numbers and data speak for themselves...

Relatively small surface, narrow chord, and significant wingspan for a high AR that provides maximum glide efficiency. Overall volume and reduced thickness lead to improved lightweight and higher top speed. The connection to the fuselage is T6 as usual for the Razor line, but the angle of incidence has been increased to promote earlier takeoff and better smoothness once cruising speed is reached.

Recommended setups

Our recommendation for top performance with WRP975 is to pair it with our Piuma mast, to have the best stiffness-weight ratio in our range and the R6 optimized connection for upgraded hydrodynamics. Just go with M76P for a more radical experience, or with M86P if you want something a bit more versatile and suitable for irregular chop conditions.

With a Piuma mast, a Piuma fuselage also becomes the best choice... our recommendation for its great balance is the F652P, but if you are an advanced rider you can also aim for the shorter, more radical, and responsive F602P.

Speaking about stabilizers, those provided in our foil sets with WRP975 are S325 Flat, for the more experienced riders looking for high maneuverability, and S380 Gullwing for those preferring more surface area and control. If you like more our other stabilizer ranges, you can also go for S370 Flat or S395 Reverse.

If you are only interested in the WRP975 and already own compatible T6 fuselages and suitable masts, our advice is to use the M73K/PF or M83K/PF from our main Kraken mast line, paired with the F653K Kraken fuselage, well balanced in both maneuverability and control (if you prefer more responsiveness you can opt for F603K, while if you look for more control you can choose F713K).

Is WRP975 the right one for you?

You may be wondering if you should upgrade from the standard Razor line, in particular, if you already own a WR980.

The honest answer is… "It just depends on you."

If your major use of the WR980 is high-performance pumping, or wing-freeriding in very light conditions and you haven't yet reached your limit, you can definitely stick with it.

If you are more prone to Downwind and Surfing instead, or you want to progress in wing freeride with a permissive but higher-performing front wing, just sell your WR980 and upgrade.

WRP975 will be for you a game-changer and the choice is 100% recommended!

Finally, If you are not yet a Razor user, we feel confident in telling you to go straight for the PRO line, especially if you are looking for larger sizes such as WRP975.
